Playing Rules: Under 6
- Learn to kick the ball comfortably
- Run purposely with the ball
- Teams are Boys & Girls playing together with
two games running side by side
- Games are 3v3
- No Goalkeeper
- No Wins
- No Losses
- No keeping of Score
- Relatively Penalty Free
- Parents (or Coaches) referee with
instruction
- Let the kids play the Game
- Let the kids have Fun
- Both teams should cheer for any goal scored,
including Own Goals!
- These are learning and developmental years for the
kids
- Special Bonus Scoring: if a child scores a goal in
his or her own goal Bonus Applause from both teams should occur

- Teams are separate for Boys & Girls
- Games are 4v4 with two games running side by
side
- No Goalkeeper
- No Wins
- No Losses

one yard behind the Touch line
- Goalkeepers are now included as players
- Scores of games are recorded
- No team standings (wins/losses) are
published
- The Game will be played in 2 halves of 20 minutes
each
- No quarter breaks 5 minute break at the
half.
- No Slide kicks (tripping)
- No Slide Tackles (tripping)
- No Kicking above the waist (high kicks)
- No use of hands in any way (except for the
goalkeeper)
- No pushing or shoving
- No Direct Free Kicks or Penalty Kicks (All Free
Kicks to be Indirect)
- No Parents/ or Coach or Assistant Coach behind the
Goal Line
- No direct kicks
- No over-time play

Rules: Under 10
- Learn to play as a team with others
- Develop and Experience all positions of field
play
- Coach, Parents and Fans pick a side and stay on it

- Concept of Offside is introduced, but only as no
Flagrant Offsides, or "Cherry Picking".
- Scores of games are recorded
- No team standings (wins/losses) are
published
- Playing to the 17 laws of soccer with some small
CYSA modifications.
- Modifications are being made to laws:
- Law I - Modified smaller field to adapt to
smaller number of younger players.
- Law II - Using a size 4 ball to adapt to the
younger smaller player.
- Law III - Playing 6v6 instead of 11 v 11.
- Law VII - Playing 25-minute halves instead of
45-minute halves. Game will end at the end of regulation time with no overtime
play offs or shootouts. Tie games will remain tie games.
- Law XI - No offside calls, but flagrant
infringements or "Cherry Picking" will not be tolerated.
- Law XIV - No penalty kicks

Quick Guide to Soccer
Terms
- ADVANTAGE: Referee
continues play so that the offending team gains no advantage.
- CAUTION: Warning against
further bad play or behavior will result in a foul MAJOR or MINOR
- COACH: A team official who
may convey tactical instructions to players during the match.
- CORNER KICK: Restart, by
the attacking team, from corner area, after a defender has put the ball out
over goal line out side of the goal.
- DANGEROUS PLAY: A
dangerous action, near an opponent, that adversely affects the opponent's
play.
- DIRECT FREE KICK: A
free-kick from which a goal may be scored directly, without the ball touching
another player.
- DROP BALL: The ball is
dropped by the referee to restart play after play has been stopped for a reason
other than an offense by a player.
- FREE-KICK: A kick, free
from obstruction, after an infraction.
- GOAL: Targets though which
the ball must pass to score goals.
- GOAL AREA: Small rectangle
marked in front of each goal.
- GOALKEEPER: Only player
that can touch a live ball with his hands in the penalty area.
- GOAL-KICK: Restart by
defender, from goal-area after attacking team has played the ball over the
goal-line, outside the goal.
- INDIRECT FREE KICK: A
free-kick from which a goal cannot be scored directly. The ball must touch
another player before a goal can be scored.
- KICK OFF: The Ball is
kicked from the center of the field of play to start a half or restart play
after a goal is scored.
- MISCONDUCT: Any act of
misbehavior contrary to the letter or the spirit of the laws.
- OFF-SIDE: A player is
OFF-SIDE if: 1) the ball is played to him by a teammate, 2) he is in an
OFF-SIDE POSITION at the moment the ball is played to him and 3) he is involved
in active play.
- OFF-SIDE POSITION: A
player is in an OFF-SIDE position if he is in his opponents' side of the field
and he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second
last opponent.
- OVERTIME: Usually two
extra periods of 15 minutes if no results after normal time of play.
- PENALTY-AREA: Large
rectangle marked in front of each goal.
- REFEREE: Game controller
usually helped by two assistant referees on the touchlines.

Indirect Free Kick Fouls
- Keeper takes more than six seconds to release ball
from his hands
- Keeper handles ball after releasing it from his
hands and before it touches another player
- Keeper handles ball after it is deliberately kicked
to him by a team-mate
- Keeper handles ball received directly from a
throw-in by a team-mate
- Playing in a dangerous manner ("Dangerous
Play")
- Impeding the progress of an opponent
- Preventing the keeper from releasing the ball from
his hands
- Anytime play is stopped specifically to award a
Yellow or Red card
Direct Free Kick
Fouls
- Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent*
- Tripping or attempting to trip an opponent*
- Jumping at an opponent*
- Charging an opponent*
- Striking or attempting to strike an opponent*
- Pushing an opponent*
- Tackling an opponent and contacting the opponent
before touching the ball
- Holding an opponent
- Spitting at an opponent
- Handling the ball deliberately (except for the
keeper in his penalty area)

A Penalty
Kick is awarded when a player commits a Direct Free Kick Foul in his own

A YELLOW CARD is a CAUTION for MISCONDUCT
- Unsporting Behavior
- Showing dissent by word or action
- Persistent infringement of the Laws of the
Game
- Delaying the restart of play
- Failure to respect the required distance when play
is restarted with a free kick or corner kick
- Entering the field of play without the referee's
permission
- Deliberately leaving the field of play without the
referee's permission
A RED CARD is a SEND-OFF
for MISCONDUCT
- Serious foul play
- Violent conduct
- Spitting at an opponent or any other person
- Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by
committing a foul
- Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by
deliberately handling the ball (except for the keeper in his penalty area)
- Using offensive, insulting or abusive language
and/or gestures
- Receiving a second CAUTION in the same match
A player who has been SENT OFF must leave
the immediate area (under adult supervision) and cannot be replaced |
